Shoulder Pain and Auto Injury

If you are suffering from shoulder pain after a car accident, don't worry. Dr. Andrew Ulvin sees this type of condition often in our Stacy, MN office. Chiropractic care is an effective way to treat shoulder pain. Let's look at how shoulder pain is caused by a crash and how Dr. Andrew Ulvin can help you.

There are at least two ways that you can develop shoulder pain after a crash: by direct trauma to the shoulder joint or by referred pain from the neck.

Direct trauma can be caused by hitting your shoulder on a hard surface in the car during the crash, or can occur if you have a tight grip on the steering wheel during a rear end crash. With this type of trauma, you'll usually be aware of the pain soon after the crash.

More commonly, Dr. Andrew Ulvin finds that shoulder or arm pain doesn't immediately appear after a crash, but begins a few days or weeks after the accident. This type of shoulder pain actually starts in the neck. Injured ligaments or muscles in your neck can tweak nerves in your neck, causing numbness, tingling, or pain in your shoulder, elbow, or wrist.

We've treated many types of shoulder pain in our Stacy, MN office. This care involves chiropractic adjustments to restore your spine's natural mobility and exercises that strengthen your neck and shoulder.
